We believe that a jetski engine is only as good as its parts. The Watercraft Superstore sells SBT pistons that are guaranteed for life. SBT's PWC pistons are cast using a high-silicone-content aluminum and anodized on the top surface to increase the operating temperature range. This anodized piston top also helps retard normal wear. A graphite coating applied to the piston walls helps with initial break-in. (The anodized top and graphite side wall design is used for Sea Doo pistons, Waverunner pistons, Tigershark pistons, Honda pistons and Polaris pistons.) Chromium-plated rings, new wrist-pins and c-clips are included in the Jet Ski piston kit.

The manufacturing process of pistons has changed considerably since the inception of the internal combustion motor. Modern piston manufacturing, such as that used by SBT, is fully automated with little or no human intervention. The advancement of race engines necessitated advancements in piston technology. As with so many parts of a race engine like in a jetski, technological advancement generally means lighter weight, greater strength, and greater durability. The criteria for piston design is much more complex— besides the issues of piston weight and strength, air/fuel flow, compression, combustion, detonation and temperature are greatly determined by the piston design. Because the piston is at the very point where horsepower is generated, its design is of critical importance. High-speed CNC machining allowed Jet Ski piston manufacturers to increase the prototyping and production cycles of pwc pistons, and 3-D modeling software greatly increased design time. Complex cam and barrel shapes— before difficult to design and machine, are now easily contoured and, just as importantly, repeated with high-tolerance consistency. Advancements in high-strength aluminum permit parts with greater strength, durability and tolerance to high heat conditions. This, coupled with more sophisticated forging techniques has allowed SBT's engineers much more flexibility in jetski piston design.
